Course for NMPs and their teams

A half-day interdisciplinary course for non-medical prescribers (NMPs) and their clinical colleagues including GPs, to prepare for the roll-out or implementation of non-medical prescribing is now available, and has been accredited by the Association for Nurse Prescribing (ANP). The course is delivered locally, can be tailored to meet local needs, and has been developed in association with the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The course can cover topics such as: the competencies needed by NMPs, accountability, regulatory body requirements and legal issues, governance compliance, clinical management plans, continuing professional development requirements, and developing prescribing. It is aimed at assisting teams to prepare for change and takes a whole systems approach.

Book published on CPD for non-medical prescribers

‘CPD for non-medical prescribers: a practical guide’ is edited by Marion Waite (Senior Lecturer, School of Health and Social Care, Oxford Brookes University) and Jan Keenan (Consultant Nurse in Cardiac Medicine at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust), has contributions by professionals from a  range of backgrounds, is published by Wiley, and costs £27.99.

It is divided into three sections: the first looks at general principles of continuing professional development (CPD); the second looks at specific approaches that have been used to facilitate CPD, for example e-learning, journal clubs, and organising CPD for this group in general practice; and the third section contains a wide range of resources including usable documents.
